HSBC crashes, leaving customers unable to access accounts and online banking

HUNDREDS of HSBC customers reported they were unable to log on and access the bank’s services this morning.

Nearly 700 issues have been logged so far on the Downdetector analytics website.

It comes just after Nationwide also suffered a major outage a few days ago, disrupting customer payments and more.

This time, HSBC customers are running into trouble as online banking, mobile banking and the simple matter of logging into accounts go awry.

The problems appear to have started around 7.30am, although a peak of some 80 reports was also recorded at 11pm last night.

More than half of frustrated HSBC users can’t access mobile banking at all, meaning they can’t track payments or access their funds without going to a physical branch yet.

Customers aired their complaints on Twitter.

One said, “I couldn’t log in this morning.”

While another said: “I can’t log into my business internet banking today, ‘Something went wrong’ he said.”

A third said: “I can’t access the desktop or the mobile app.”

“A lot of issues recently which is disappointing,” said another.

It wouldn’t be the first time the bank’s customers have been left in the dark as services go down.

HSBC customers have again struggled to connect to their mobile banking to access accounts and pay bills following computer problems at the bank last month.

HSBC has been contacted for comment.

Whether you receive money for inconvenience is another matter.

Can I claim compensation for an online banking failure?

There is no automatic right to compensation as is the case with other services, such as telecoms.

You can file a complaint with your bank if you think you are owed money because of a breakdown, for example if you were unable to pay a bill on time and you were charged a fee. billed accordingly.

Each bank has its own complaints procedure and you will need to show how the technical issues have affected you.

You can then file a complaint with HSBC, either at your local branch or by using this complaint form.

You will need to think about how much you expect in compensation and when you expect to receive it.
