Leaving windows open while leaving home, keeping silent about a new job, and posting vacation photos on social media are some of the common ways people might unknowingly leave themselves uninsured, research shows.
According to MoneySuperMarket, more than a quarter (27%) of people said they left windows open while they were outside, but were unaware that this could result in the denial of a home insurance claim.
Posting a selfie on social media while on vacation, which 16% of those surveyed said they did without knowing it could invalidate their coverage, could also alert burglars that a home is empty, the website added.
Many people have done home renovations such as extensions during coronavirus closings.
But 16% said they hadn’t reported renovations to their insurer and didn’t realize they needed them.
Many people were also unaware that having a friend for a long time could also have an impact on their politics.
With regard to auto insurance, 16% of drivers were unaware that changing jobs or job titles without informing their insurer could potentially cancel their policy and had therefore remained silent about it, revealed the survey of 2,000 people across the UK in June.
